We are proud to be a world class centre of excellence for the training and education of classical ballet dancers where graduating students are prepared to secure contracts with national and international ballet companies. Teachers come from successful professional dance backgrounds and teach with passion and commitment.
A student-focussed learning experience maximises each studentís potential in learning, living and dancing skills. The positive learning environment and high expectations prepare our graduates for life in the very best national and international ballet companies.
Elmhurst in Association with Birmingham Royal Ballet is a world renowned centre of excellence for the training and education of ballet dancers. Students are equipped with the skills, resilience and creativity to succeed and make a difference in the professional dance world and beyond.

Medical Centre and Student Health and Wellbeing


The Student Support, Health and Wellbeing Team aim to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of Elmhurst students. We work closely with students and their families in caring for short and long term injury or illness and in supporting students' social and emotional welfare.

    We aim to:
  • Listen to our students, providing a means for them to convey their opinions and feelings so that they feel valued and understood.
  • Promote and protect the individual rights of our students in all settings where they receive care and treatment.
  • Recognise each student as a unique individual whose best interests must be paramount.
  • Respect the right of students, according to their age and understanding, to appropriate information, and facilitate informed participation in decisions about their health care.
  • Focus on the health promotion of all Elmhurst students, with the aim of minimising lifestyle factors that may compromise health and well-being.
  • Reinforce the role of the Nursing staff in safeguarding and protecting Elmhurst Students.

Provision of Student Support and Health Services at Elmhurst

    The student medical and support services at Elmhurst include:
  • Well-equipped purpose built Medical Centre, staff by two full time and one part time qualified nurses and a Medical Support Assistant.
  • In House GP clinics twice a week, carried out by Doctorís with a range of interests in sports injury and adolescent health.
  • Sport massage on the school site twice a week.
  • Physiotherapy services are available in the Artists Remedial Centre (ARC) four days a week in the schools purpose built physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre.
  • Dedicated Long Term Injured Student Management program, which has been developed to help support those students with longer term dance injuries.
  • Access to the Dance Psychology Consultant (DPC) based in the school Medical Centre. The students are offered group and one to one sessions to help improve dance performance.
  • CAMHS and Open Door counselling services are available to students where appropriate.
  • Both Chiropody and Podiatry care are available to all students.
  • BRASH Sexual Health Clinics are run for sixth form students to promote safe and health sexual behaviour.
  • Nutritional talks and information are provided to students.
  • Sixth Form Cookery & Nutrition master classes will be available from January 2012 at neighbouring King Edwards High School for Girls.
    Multi-Panel Teams to support the vision and ethos:
  • Information about all studentsí Health and Wellbeing is shared and discussed during weekly Student Health and Welfare Meetings (SHWM), which is made up of a cross faculty team and designed to offer the students the best support possible when dealing with an on-going health or injury issue. Appropriate and relevant information will then be fed back to the wider staff community.
  • Once each half term Key Stage Focus meetings are held with Academic and Dance Tutors, House Staff and Medical representatives the purpose of which is to share information and address concerns focused on the students; progress, attendance & punctuality, pastoral issues and any cross faculty events.
  • The Student Support, Health and Welfare Team will always aim to work with students, parents and the wider community to provide a holistic support network, to allow Elmhurst students to develop into healthy adult professional dancers.
