Do you have the talent, passion and commitment to become a ballet professional of the future?
If you have answered yes, we would like to hear from you. Please download and complete an application form for your chance to audition for a place at Elmhurst Ballet School
The foundation of training at Elmhurst Ballet School is classical ballet with an emphasis on strong technique, musicality and artistry. Daily ballet classes are offered and structured accordingly to provide all of these elements.
Pointe work for female students starts from Year 7 and evolves accordingly as the students’ progress throughout the school. Supported Adage is introduced in Year 11, as an early introduction to pas de deux which formally starts in Year 12. A comprehensive programme consisting of contemporary, jazz, flamenco, folk, character and specialist strength and conditioning assists students with the necessary versatility to cope with the diverse repertoire of ballet companies and other creative industries.
Our students benefit greatly from Elmhurst’s association with Birmingham Royal Ballet where many students have the opportunity to perform with the company throughout their time in School.
There are four boarding houses onsite. Each boarding house is staffed by an experienced team of pastoral staff.
During the three years of training in the Upper School the artistic curriculum is designed to prepare and equip students with the necessary skills and attributes to gain employment with world class dance companies.
Alongside their demanding dance training schedule our students study for two A levels in Year 12 and 13.
Our students become Elmhurst Ballet Company in their Graduate Year, an opportunity for them to produce their own work, tour as a company and take ballet out into the community. They will be introduced to new ways of working, new audiences and develop their interpersonal and coaching skills, enhancing their learning during their time with us.
Elmhurst students gain from the experience of being tutored by a large number of industry leading guest teachers and choreographers of international standing, including many Birmingham Royal Ballet Staff and Principal Dancers throughout their three years. The students will have performance opportunities with both national and international external companies, and are able to enter dance competitions at the discretion of the Principal and Artistic Director.
Students who graduate after the three-year Upper School Programme can achieve the National Diploma in Professional Dance, validated by Trinity College London. This enables the student, with one year’s additional study, to achieve a BA Hons degree in Dance undertaken with Middlesex University
Our Health & Wellbeing Centre offers a wide range of health and wellbeing services including our own physiotherapy service, mental health support, GP surgery and more.
Living accommodation for Years 12 and 13 is in our off site boarding house, ‘The Elms’ where students enjoy staying in apartment style living. Elmhurst Ballet Company members live in rented accommodation within easy access of the school.
Our outstanding artistic and academic education is open to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances. Means tested funding may be available either through the government Dance and Drama Award scheme, DfES Music and Dance Scheme or School Bursaries.
We wish you the very best of luck!
