Six students from Elmhurst School for Dance were honoured to be invited to Tokyo for a fifth year to perform with young dancers and guest artists of Japan International Youth Ballet (JIYB) on Monday 20th July in Tachikawa City, Tokyo.
Michael Ho, ballet teacher at Elmhurst once again lead the group of students for this visit that marked the fifth collaboration with JIYB which started in 2010.
The Elmhurst group travelled to Tokyo on Monday 13th July after the completion of the very successful 'Summer Shows' at Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Elmhurst Studio Theatre for a week of rehearsals, making friends, Shopping Malls, wonderful food, exploring, Disney Sea and the performance. The six Elmhurst Graduate Students, Mami Hagihara, Archie Sladen, Corinne Cox, Jared Hinton, Misaki Satake and Joshua Lee had an incredible time with Corinne and Josh documenting their visit writing blog posts throughout their week - you can read their posts here: https://elmhurstdance.wordpress.com/2015/09/02/elmhurst-in-japan-2015/
The collaboration between Elmhurst students and JIYB was deemed an enormous success and credit is due to all participating students for their exemplary attitude and professionalism. It must also be mentioned that the huge and tireless effort invested by everyone involved in this project ensured the triumphant result that was achieved. As a consequence of this year's success Elmhurst has been invited to return in July 2016 for a sixth collaboration.
Our grateful thanks goes to everyone at JIYB for the opportunity to participate in the 2015 Student Cultural Exchange, not least for their hospitality and generosity in making this visit so special and enjoyable.
We look forward to the next collaboration with JIYB in 2016.
