Born in Birmingham, Jenny MacNamara attended local dance schools, before moving to London's Italia Conti Academy, where she was head girl in her final year and taught on the school's Saturday programme. She joined Elmhurst on its move to Birmingham in 2004 and regularly choreographs for the students' end-of-year performances.
On graduating she worked in variety and pantomime, as well as developing her skills as a teacher. She broadened her dance experience over the following years, performing with Kokuma Dance Theatre around the UK and Europe and later with ACE Dance and Music, the African, Caribbean and Contemporary Dance Company of the Midlands, also working with the education team there. She also learnt and then later taught Ballroom and Latin American for T.C. International.
In the education sector, she was a member of Dance Alive, a Contemporary Dance Company in Education, with Birmingham-based DanceXchange which led to the roles of Dance Artist in Residence, first for Malvern and Worcestershire, then on Shift, a project for men with mental health issues. She has also taught at Kingsley College and Stafford College and has a degree in Education.
In recent years, she has choreographed for the European Indoor Athletics Championships, World Wheelchair Basketball Championships, Trampoline and Tumbling Championships (all Birmingham NIA), and, since 2007, annually for the Vanemuine Ballet in Tartu, Estonia.
