Do you have the talent, passion and commitment to become a ballet professional of the future?
If you have answered yes, we would like to hear from you. Please download and complete an application form for your chance to audition for a place in years 7 or 14 (Elmhurst Ballet Company).
The Lower School is where you’ll lay the ground work for becoming an exceptional dancer developing your technical, artistic and creative dance skills. You’ll enjoy a dynamic and busy timetable with varying dance styles, all building on the foundations of your daily ballet class.
You’ll participate in classes in classical ballet, pointe work (girls), contemporary technique, choreography, jazz, tap and coaching. Supported adage is introduced in Year 10, as well as strength and conditioning.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop your performance skills through our annual summer show and choreographic competition, as well as other community events.
Join us in Year 7 and subject to your good health and behaviour, we’ll make a 5-year commitment to your training. You can of course join us at a later stage too.
Throughout your time at Elmhurst, you’ll be assessed regularly. If, at any point, we’re worried about your progress we’ll talk to you and find ways to help you improve.
Students offered a place at Elmhurst, who have been resident in the UK for the previous three years, may be eligible for financial assistance through the DfES Music and Dance Scheme This covers all, or a proportion of the fees, on a sliding scale based on parental income
In Year 14, you become a member of Elmhurst Ballet Company (EBC), bridging student and professional life. Operating as a student company, you will participate in daily ballet class, produce your own work, tour as a company and take ballet out into the community.
You will be introduced to new ways of working, new audiences, and develop your interpersonal and coaching skills, further enhancing your holistic learning during your time at Elmhurst.
Collaboration with professional companies is important to the EBC programme. You will take company class with Birmingham Royal Ballet for a first-hand experience of professional company life, and experience opportunities to work with companies such as Company Wayne McGregor.
Sixth Formers benefit greatly from Elmhurst’s association with Birmingham Royal Ballet where many students have the opportunity to perform with the company and in Year 14 enjoy company class alongside the professionals.
Due to the limited amount of places available, applicants will be selected by the Artistic Director from applications and the photos received. Please do not enclose the audition fee at application, this will be requested by those invited to audition following the selection process.
